What is happiness? Different people have different ideas. Some people are rich; they think they are happy. Other people have many friends, so they feel happy. Still others are happy because their lives are meaningful. Happiness attracts everyone. For children, happiness often suggests eating something good or playing with toys. For a stamp collector, stamps bring more delight than meals. And for a scientist, a discovery or an invention rather than anything else gives him greatest satisfaction. There was once a beggar who was always happy. The king saw him and wondered why he was so happy because he was so poor. However, the king could have whatever he wanted; yet he himself was not happy at all. Thus we can see one’s happiness doesn’t depend on whether he is rich or poor. Happiness is a state of mind. As long as one thinks he’s content and satisfied, he is happy. As everything exist only because its opposite, happiness exists only when pain exists. Just as a person who does not know failure never knows success, a person, who has not experienced suffering or sadness never knows what happiness means. Happiness always promises a hope by which people go on living. When they come to the point of losing hope because they have suffered a great deal, it is often the time when happiness comes that will give them the courage and desire to live. Cheer up and be happy. Happiness is not far from you. It’s just around you. Try to grasp it and enjoy it.

Pride and Prejudice

Pride and Prejudice is a famous classic book. I think many people have read it or have watched this movie. I love the book, and I also like the movie. The main actor and actress are Elizabeth and Darcy. Mrs. Bennet’s second daughter named Elizabeth is a beautiful and clever girl. Mr. Darcy is a handsome, rich and proud man. He is sweet on Elizabeth. But his proud and some people’s calumniate make Elizabeth misapprehend him. So she refuses the requirement of marriage from Darcy. They almost lose each other. With the time gone, Elizabeth finds that she misunderstands Darcy and feels sorry for him. Finally, when they meet again, Elizabeth finds Darcy become gentle and polite. They clear the atmosphere and fall in love with each other. I am attracted by the protagonists in this book. They have lively personalities and characters. I love Elizabeth because she is intelligent and confident. She has strong proper pride and never conceals her sentiment. She is the representation of typical lady. I think many girls want to become such a person who is rational and sagacious like Elizabeth. I am also love Darcy. Although he is pride at the beginning, he is really love Elizabeth and would like to do everything for her. I remember that Elizabeth refuses Darcy because of his pride and her prejudice, but Darcy still love her and try his best to help her sister. This really makes me moved. I think I will never forget this book and the movie. All shall be well, and Jack shall have Jill, I hope.

I began to play computer game when I was a little child. Like most girls, I don’t like those bloody games. Instead, I prefer the games with beautiful pictures and moving stories. My favorite game is stardom2. It is not quite famous, but among the girls who are interested in computer games, it is really popular. It’s an old game which was published in 1998. I bought it two months later. In this game, you act a beautiful girl, who wants to be a star. At first, she doesn’t have any skill to be an actress, singer or modal. After training, she becomes much better and can get more opportunities. And at the end, she can be very famous and maybe a top star if you are a good player. In addition, she can make many friends by talking with them and dating with them. Now I’m still playing the game. Many of my friends wonder why I’m still interested in it. They think I’m too familiar with the game and there’s nothing new and exciting to me. In fact, I don’t know the reason either. Maybe it is because of reminiscence. And to me, playing a game without any thinking is really relaxed. Now, stardom3 has been released. The player act a beautiful girl, but this time the girl is a manager of an entertainment company. She has to find others to become famous stars. I haven’t played it yet, and I am looking forward to it.

Last week, I am so bored to do everything, although I have lots of assignments. Therefore, I look through news on some Chinese website. I found that there are so many TV PK (Point Kick or Player Killer) shows in China. From about 2004 to now, a lot of different kinds of TV PK shows play on the TV. Not only do they keep a great deal of advertising revenues coming, they also cause different effects among our Chinese audiences. The TV PK shows have been great hits in China. Many people are fond of these shows because they are considered as interesting and entertaining. Also, the process of PK shows is usually very moving. However, I really do not like these TV PK shows, because all of these shows feature ordinary people instead of professional actors and actresses. I think that they are too commercial and uneducated, and that an over-all quality of the TV PK shows is downgraded. Also, I don’t like the stars that become famous because of TV shows. Although some of them are good at acting or singing, most of them are not. Most of them never received professional training, and they only focus on their appearances. I don’t know when the TV show will comedown and disappear. I hope that day will come soon. The real stars should on the TV instead of these kinds of “stars”. I really hope it will come true. Besides, I can’t understand why they can become famous. It is really strange.

Shinhwa

My favorite band Shinhwa is a popular South Korean boy band. It has six members with 3 vocalists (Minwoo, Dongwan and Hyesung) and 3 rappers (Eric, Junjin and Andy) and debuted on March 24, 1998. Shinhwa continues to release albums for 10 years while the bands debuted in the same time all have disbanded. And now it is the longest-running boy band on South Korean. Throughout their existence, Shinhwa have achieved many successes and have changed their musical styles many times. Bubblegum pop to pop songs to dance songs, and now is a more slow pop style. Shinhwa have created a variation of popular music to K-pop listeners and they have as well created their own distinct style of music. Besides, Shinhwa is often hailed as one of the best dance group in South Korea and won many dancing awards. Their dancing style is often choreography, and sometimes free style and break dance as well. Shinhwa has released 8 Korean albums, 3 Korean singles, a Japanese album, a Japanese single, 3 compilation albums and a best album. They are planning to release their 9th album in April. I have already listened to one of their new songs, and it is so moving. However, somebody said that this album is their last one because some members are going to military service soon. They have to do the service for two or three years. I believe that after they finish their military service，they will come back and become more successful. This is also their promise for us.

Today I find an interesting story. In this story, a wonderful love letter really attracts me. There once lived a lad who was deeply in love with a girl, but disliked by the girl’s father, who didn’t want to see any further development of their love. The lad was eager to write to the girl, yet he was quite sure that the father would read it first. So he wrote such a letter to the girl:

My love for you I once expressed
　　no longer lasts, instead, my distaste for you
　　is growing with each passing day. Next time I see you,
　　I even won’t like that look yours.
　　I’ll do nothing but
　　look away from you. You can never expect I’ll
　　marry you. The last chat we had
　　was so dull and dry that you shouldn’t think it
　　made me eager to see you again.
　　If we get married, I firmly believe I’ll
　　live a hard life, I can never
　　live happily with you, I’ll devote myself
　　but not
　　to you. No one else is more
　　harsh and selfish and least
　　solicitous and considerate than you.
　　I sincerely want to let you know
　　what I said is true. Please do me a favor by
　　ending our relations and refrain from
　　writing me a reply. Your letter is always full of
　　things which displease me. You have no
　　sincere care for me. So long! Please believe
　　I don’t love you any longer. Don’t think
I still have a love of you!

Having read the letter, the father felt relieved and gave it to his daughter with a light heart. The girl also felt quite pleased after she read it carefully; her lad still had a deep love for her. Do you know why? In fact, she felt very sad when she read the letter for the first time. But she read it for a few more times and , at last, she found the key – only every other line should be read, that is the first line, the third, the fifth … and so on to the end.

Today, one of my friends who are studying at university of Saskatchewan came to Calgary to visit my other friends and me. We went shopping together. She liked Calgary very much. In her opinion, Saskatoon was just a big village, but not a city. When we walked in downtown, she was so surprised that there were so many tall buildings here. She told me that in Saskatoon’s downtown, there are only few tall buildings. Besides, she said that Saskatoon was very dirty. After the snow, the roads will become muddy and nobody clean them. Then we went to Chinook, she buy so many clothes because she said there were not many big mall in Saskatoon. She looked really like here. She also cried up the weather in Calgary. I told her the weather just became warm these days. In the past days, it was also very cold. However, she said anyway, it was better than Saskatoon. After shopping, we went to U of C, she also envied. I think she just envied everything in Calgary. She told me that one of the tallest buildings in U of S was the library. It is only 6 or 7 floors. U of S is much bigger than U of C that also because the buildings are short, so it need more space. She said she didn’t want to leave, she would like live here. It is so funny. I think, if I went to Saskatoon, maybe I will like it. Every city has its own characters. What we should do is living here and loving here.
